Maintenance of Mango wood furniture

Much of our furniture is made from mango wood: a sustainable, environmentally friendly type of wood. We are often asked how you can best maintain mango wood furniture.

A cupboard requires much less intensive maintenance than a table. A cupboard made of mango wood actually requires little maintenance. There are many different products on the market for furniture, a very economical and practical option is teakfix. It is called “teakfix”, but in addition to teak wood can be used for all types of tropical hardwood, including mango wood. Teakfix is ​​a colorless water-based protector. It is also available as a “kit”, including special detergent and cloth.

The great advantage of Teakfix is ​​that the wood hardly changes color after treatment with Teakfix. The natural look of the mango wood is preserved and the furniture is protected against dirt and moisture stains. The wood with teakfix is ​​less protected against grease stains, so it is not really recommended for a table. You can repeat the treatment with teakfix annually. Sand the furniture lightly in advance in the direction of the grain.

Another option to keep the wood alive is to use beeswax or wax, such as Wood Antique Wax. These are natural products, on a non-chemical basis.

It is the case that the wood of beeswax or wax is a bit darker. Now there are different types of wax, from transparent, to light and dark wax. The wood of the transparent wax or beeswax does not become very dark, but for all types of wax, the wood starts to “live”: you see the veins better, and the wood becomes less dull, it starts to shine a bit. You must of course like that.
