HISTORIC PROVENANCE

The Carpet Akhtihotep is inspired by reliefs depicting personified estates (ca. 2575-2551 B.C.) from the tomb of Akhtihotep, a royal official and priest. Now in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, these limestone reliefs portray figures, representing agricultural estates or farms, carrying baskets of offerings to the deceased atop their heads. Carpet Akhtihotep, handwoven in a wool-and-cotton mix, takes its design from the images on the original.

In collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York we present a beautifully crafted new collection including almost 100 unique furniture, lighting, and accessory items. The Met | Eichholtz collection draws inspiration from over 5,000 years of history and art.

How to care for wool and viscose carpets

Being a natural material, wool is a popular choice for carpet. It’s warmth retaining, sound absorbing, environmentally friendly and durable. Viscose is renowned for its luxurious look, silk like lustre and superior softness. Knowing how to clean wool and viscose blends will help you keep your carpet looking lovely, longer.

Cleaning and maintenance

Vacuum clean regularly with a low powered vacuum cleaner. Do not pull loose ends, trim with scissors. Use rug protectors under the legs of heavy furniture.
Treat a spot created by spilled drinks or dropped food, by first scraping up as much of the substance as possible with a plastic spoon: scrape towards the center of the spill to keep the spot as small as possible. Do not dry the stain completely or it may set.
For further cleaning, use a good carpet shampoo. Check a small, concealed area of your carpet first with some of the cleaning solution to ensure that it is colourfast. Avoid over-wetting while cleaning. Open windows and ventilate your room in order to speed up the drying process.
For periodic cleaning, a professional carpet cleaner is recommended.
Rotate or reposition your carpet every two months to keep the surface even and to extend the life of the carpet. During the initial period of use, shedding is normal. This will subside with subsequent usage.
Store your carpet by rolling the top side in and wrapping with a cloth for protection. Please keep away from sharp objects, hot surfaces and open fire places.
